Question and Answer on Maintenance Knowledge of Pure Water Equipment
1. Coarse filter
What types of coarse filters are there?
Coarse filters vary in size according to the amount of water filtered. The most common water-using equipment in chemical industry is sand filter, non-woven filter and P P fiber filter. The length of non-woven filter and PP fiber filter is 10 inches and 20 inches. The diameter of filter core used as coarse filter is generally about 25 U.
(2) What is the function of the coarse filter?
The function of the crude filter is to remove suspended impurities with larger particle size in water, avoid these impurities entering the activated carbon filter, cover the surface of activated carbon, and make the capillary structure of activated carbon food water equipment lose the ability to absorb impurities in water.
(3) Why and how to maintain the coarse filter?
The resistance of crude filter increases sharply with the increase of solid impurity interception, and the water flow decreases gradually. If it is not handled in time, it can not meet the water flow requirements of the follow-up treatment process. For sand filters, backwash should be done in time when the pressure rises to a certain extent. When backwashing, some fine sand is washed out of the filter, so the sand filter should be regularly supplemented with sand. After repeated backwashing, the degree of breakage of sand increases. At the same time, it is impossible to wash out 100% of the remaining silt in the sand gradually increases, and the sand layer will appear "hardening" phenomenon. At this time, the sand layer should be replaced. For non-woven or PP fiber filter element, it is usually difficult to clean with water after the filter hole is blocked, so the filter element must be replaced regularly.
2. Activated carbon filter
What is the function of activated carbon filter?
Activated carbon filter mainly removes macromolecular organic matter, iron oxide and residual chlorine. Organic compounds, residual chlorine and iron oxides are easy to poison ion exchange resins, while residual chlorine and cationic surfactants can not only poison resins, but also destroy membrane structure and make reverse osmosis membranes invalid.
(2) Why should the activated carbon filter be maintained?
Activated carbon filter uses the rich capillary pore of activated carbon to adsorb and filter macromolecular organic matter, residual chlorine, iron oxide and other colloidal substances in water. This adsorption is irreversible. Activated carbon has a certain saturated adsorption capacity. Once the adsorption is saturated, activated carbon will lose its adsorption performance and can not be reversed. Flushing removes contaminants. In addition, after activated carbon adsorbs organic matter, it provides abundant nutrition for bacteria, resulting in a large number of bacteria breeding in activated carbon filters, and the microbial content in water increases after activated carbon filtration.
3. How to maintain activated carbon filter?
Before the adsorption of activated carbon is saturated, backwash is carried out regularly to wash out a large number of bacteria and suspended solids on the surface of activated carbon. New activated carbon should be replaced immediately after the adsorption of activated carbon is saturated. Otherwise, it will cause irreparable damage to reverse osmosis membrane.
3. Water softener
What is the function of water softener?
The function of water softener is to remove calcium and magnesium ions from water and soften water. If there is no water softener or water softener failure, calcium and magnesium salts on the surface of reverse osmosis membranes become insoluble precipitates due to the sharp increase in concentration, plugging the pore of reverse osmosis membranes and shortening the service life of reverse osmosis membranes.
(2) Why and how to maintain the water softener?
Sodium cation exchange resin is commonly used in water softeners for making pure water. After resin exchange is saturated, salt is used for regeneration. After several years of use, the degree of resin breakage became more and more serious, and the softening ability gradually lost. Especially when the activated carbon filter is saturated and the activated carbon is not replaced in time, the iron, organic matter and residual chlorine in the raw water will directly enter the softener, causing resin poisoning. Once the resin is poisoned, it can not be regenerated to restore its activity. When the working exchange capacity of the resin decreases significantly, the resin should be replaced.
4. Reverse osmosis is the core component of pure water system. Raw water pretreated to meet the requirements of reverse osmosis membrane becomes pure water after reverse osmosis filtration. Therefore, the key to ensure the quality of pure water is to maintain reverse osmosis. The concentration of salt on the surface of reverse osmosis membrane is higher than that in the main fluid, which is called concentration polarization. The result of concentration polarization is that some salt deposits on the membrane surface, blockages the water production channel of reverse osmosis membrane, and decreases the water production of membrane. Organic substances in feed water will deposit on the membrane surface when they are not washed out continuously or regularly, especially some charged reverse osmosis membranes, which will attract charged organic substances and stick them to the membrane surface. The deposition of organic matter on the surface of the membrane causes more serious damage to the membrane than the deposition of salt on the surface of the membrane. Sometimes the damage is irreversible. The concentration of organic matter and various salts on the membrane surface is much higher than that in the main stream, which provides abundant nutrition for bacterial reproduction. A large number of microbial flora not only blocked the water production channel, but also caused irreversible damage because the reverse osmosis membrane itself is an organic matter, which will be decomposed by microorganisms. The oxidative substances such as residual chlorine in water are enriched on the surface of the membrane. After enrichment to a certain extent, the reverse osmosis membrane will be oxidized and decomposed beyond the concentration of the membrane itself.
All these factors make the water yield of RO membrane decrease gradually, the salt permeability increase gradually, and the quality of pure water decrease. Generally speaking, the service life of reverse osmosis membrane is three years. If the reverse osmosis membrane is damaged, it should be replaced in time. Otherwise, it will not only affect the water yield, but also deteriorate the water quality.
